Real Estate Investment Trusts are property investment companies. Originally launched in the US, REITs were launched in the UK in 2007. A REIT is ultimately a property investment company which are traded on stock exchanges, such as the AIM market or FTSE in the UK, in the same way as any other share. REITs have stringent rules and regulations in the UK, however in the same token receive flexibility and tax efficiency in return.
