Mezzanine Debt
Mezzanine debt occurs when a hybrid debt issue is subordinated to another debt issue from the same issuer, such as equity based and warrants. Mezzanine debt is often used to finance acquisitions and buyouts, where it can be used to prioritise new owners ahead of existing owners in the event that a bankruptcy occurs.
